Our Snip-It slips aren’t anything new – our customers in the know have been loving them for decades! Debuting as “Snip A Row”, this collection was introduced by Alan Rifkin, grandson of Velrose’s original 1914 founders, at a time when the prevalence of home sewing was on the decline and women were increasingly on the lookout for a simpler, quicker way to get a perfect fit.
Off-the-rack clothing sizes are designed to best fit an average figure, which can leave those who fall far away from that average struggling to find pieces that work for them. The Slip-It slips were – and still are – an innovation for these women, allowing them to easily customize the slip length to their needs once they’d tried it on, using nothing more than a pair of scissors. A convenient, no-sew solution that gives 3 or 4 lengths to choose from depending on the style.

Which sizes and styles are available in the Velrose® Snip-It slip collection?
Snip-It truly is the one-stop slip collection with something for every customer and every outfit. The 9 styles include full slips, half slips, narrow pant liners, wide culotte slips, and above-knee slip shorts. The slip shorts are available in a choice of cotton or nylon, while everything else comes in the silky-feeling 100% nylon tricot fabric and a choice of 3 or 4 practical everyday colors.

The two full slip dresses in the collection are available in sizes 32 to 54 (equivalent to up to size US 26 – see our size guide for further details) and the other pieces in Small through 3X, 4X or 5X. As for lengths, the shortest pieces in the collection are the tap pant style slip shorts, which make great slips for petite women and under miniskirts since they can be adjusted down to 14”, while the longest are the pant liner with an unadjusted length of 39” and the crochet-edged full slip with a maximum length of 31” from waist to hem. How long should your slip be?
Regardless of height, a good rule of thumb is that you want your slip to be a minimum of 1” shorter than whatever you’re wearing over it. This ensures that the slip won’t poke out when you sit down and your hemline rides up a little. (Unless, of course, you’re wearing your slip as a skirt extender and having it visible is the whole point.)
Naturally, most of us have skirts and dresses of various lengths in our closet. So it may be sensible to pick a slip that’s 1” shorter than your shortest hemline, buying both shorter and longer slips if you have very varied hemlines. For example, if you have knee-length skirts/dresses that hit 26-30” below the waist and longer styles ranging from 36-39”, selecting both a 25” slip and a 35” slip will ensure you’ve got an ideal match for every item.
Pro tip: when evaluating slip lengths, remember that full slip lengths are measured from the waist down, not from the shoulder.

How to customize your Velrose® Snip-It slip length for a flawless fit
Our customizable-length slips are so simple to alter to your perfect size! They come in two varieties: lace-trimmed, and with crochet ridges. All you have to do is get a pair of sharp scissors and cut off the necessary number of rows, leaving at least one for a neat, elegantly-trimmed hemline which won’t fray.
The lace-trimmed Snip-It slips come with three rows of pretty floral lace; trim one away to remove 2” or two away to remove 4”. The crochet-detailed slips meanwhile come with four rows of opaque nylon; remove one to shorten by 1”, two to shorten by 2”, or three to shorten by 3”.
Do I have to alter my Velrose® Snip-It slip to wear it?
Not at all. These lingerie slips are perfectly wearable with no alteration, so you can also buy them simply because you like the look of the deep lace or crochet trim. And of course, if you’re on the hunt for slips for tall figures, simply go by the longest, un-snipped length and keep the slip as it is. We also offer a non-adjustable nylon half slip which comes in six length options up to 38” long.
